A handful of pieces were sometimes enough to create countless constructions, provided they were assembled correctly. In magic, it is sometimes the same: behind a successful trick often lies a fundamental principle, a true "brick" of creation, capable of giving rise to an infinite number of effects and creations. It is precisely this approach that led Mathieu Cima to write Le Principe de la Poule.

And for good reason, what you quickly understand when listening to Mathieu Cima is that beyond the creation of a trick itself, there was something much more deeply rooted. As if creating a trick was ultimately just a starting point and the real challenge lay in understanding how the trick worked. With ACAAD ("Any Card at Any Dice"), for example, Mathieu Cima reinterprets the ACAAN principle by introducing dice, which are rarely used in magic despite being very present in the discipline's iconography, by using mathematics that work behind the scenes to meet his own needs. The Wright brothers didn't just build an airplane: they discovered a fundamental mechanism for controlling flights, an idea viable enough to allow other generations of engineers to improve it. Here, the real innovation lies not only in the created object, but in the discovery of a fundamental mechanism capable of being transformed and adapted. In his work, Mathieu Cima therefore presents not just a trick, but a method of creation rich enough to give birth to new effects.

However, an idea truly gains its full power only when it can be transmitted and reinvented by others. After discovering the invisible mechanics behind ACAAD, Mathieu Cima no longer just seeks to explain a trick: he wants to offer magicians a principle capable of nourishing their own creations. Far from the image of the solitary inventor who would keep his discovery to himself, we can speak here of transmission through this desire to create something that will be used differently. In Le Principe de la Poule, several routines are explained before moving on to an optional mathematical chapter in which Mathieu Cima demonstrates the foundations that make these effects possible. This approach reveals a form of humility from the creator: the strength of an idea is not only measured by what it allows its inventor to create, but also by its ability to continue to exist and evolve without him. This philosophy is reminiscent of open-source software, like Linux. By sharing its code, an entire community was able to appropriate it, modify it, and adapt it to new uses. A creation therefore does not lose its value when it is transmitted; on the contrary, it acquires a new dimension by becoming the starting point for other creations.

For Mathieu Cima, imagining a new trick is not just about finding an idea that would be spectacular: it is above all about meeting a set of requirements. It is this search for balance that guides his creative work, articulated around three essential objectives: the efficiency of the trick, with the desire to offer a strong effect; its simplicity, so as not to let technique take over and to be able to devote more energy to the presentation; and finally its practicality, with effects capable of instant resetting so they can be presented again without time constraints.

ACAAD perfectly illustrates this philosophy, by meeting each of these criteria. Mathieu Cima particularly emphasizes that the envelopes can even be put back in place by the spectators themselves, thus allowing the magician to concentrate on the proposed experience rather than on the technical preparation of the trick. This search for balance is also reminiscent of certain designers, like at Apple where the apparent simplicity of the products hides a long design process. This approach also explains why most of Mathieu Cima's tricks were born from a personal need before becoming shared creations!

Thus, Le Principe de la Poule goes far beyond simply explaining a magic trick. By seeking the hidden mechanics behind ACAAD, Mathieu Cima not only discovers a method: he highlights a different way of thinking about magical creation. Behind the dice, calculations, and cards, it is not just a magical effect that is revealed, but an invisible mechanism capable of giving rise to an infinite number of experiences.
