An emotionally rich history of magic conference!

From August 24 to 27, 2023, the city of Ghent (Belgium) hosted the 9th European Congress of the History of Magic. A unique, timeless event that brings together the biggest names in magical art for a series of conferences and exceptional events!

The first part of the event took place at the House of Mysteries, a magnificent place in the city of Ghent hidden at a street corner. This truly vintage big top, tastefully restored, was the setting for an exceptional exhibition on the transformist artist Fregoli. Jack Cooper honored us by presenting his immense collection dedicated to the artist. This is how, between two original posters, one could find handwritten documents by Fregoli, photos of him, and even the notebook listing all his travels.

Among other activities, numerous conferences were planned where the French were well represented. It was also an opportunity to visit the Ghent archives and discover exceptional magical documents such as this Ghent manuscript telling the story of a magician:

Finally, we took advantage of the unique opportunity offered by this congress to officially announce the release of a work that concludes more than 10 years of research: the biography of Bénita Anguinet, co-written by Pierre Taillefer and Thibault Ternon, a work of more than 120 pages containing more than fifty unpublished illustrations (engravings, photos, letters, posters, etc.) and published in limited quantities.
